a quick look at the CORES website revealed this:

that means the folks at the fcc have ole pardo’s application and are in review.  the callsigns i chose to change to were:

NJ2M  (as an homage to that someone special)

AI2D

WL2E

WP2E

the ones with the "E" on the end are great for pile ups - the phonetic ECHO usually gets through in voice.  i am partial to the first two  - one for personal reasons and two for the "cool" factor.  the "W" calls have a nostalgia feel to them.

the last attempt at obtaining a vanity call ended in failure and a refund of the $11.70 fee from the fcc.  i did not understand the system then.  i found this site:

and found this on the left side of the site:

there where many, very many extra 2X1 calls available in "2" land - a good many of them had "Q" and "Z" in them - not good for code or phonetics.  there were few 1X2 calls, exactly 4 in "2" land.  a group of the calls were geographically restricted for some reason.

the key this time around is the vanityHQ site lists the calls as available immediately or date restricted.  this allows a prospective vanity call hunter a better chance at getting the call desired - further digging on n4mc’s site showed links to the existing vanity applications, what the hams are asking for, and when their apps went in to the fcc - this is helpful to avoid the shoot down letter (like i got the first time).

so, we will keep a vigil going for the disposition of my application.  the great thing about this process is you no longer need to wait for the mail.  you learn right away what happened.

am i going to miss the call i had for 20 years, maybe.  but i will be glad to no longer carry the moniker - "John’s Wet Feet" - or, as W2JTD says - "Johnny Wet Farts."  Uck!
